On Getting to The Point

Here's a mantra: speak clearly, write well, and be polite. So why do so many people forget those things the minute they arrive at work? This collection of short essays is a reminder of how things should be, how we need to get to the point in e-mail and memos, and how we can be both pointed and polite when it comes to business etiquette. If you've ever wondered. . . Why most PowerPoint slides suck and how to fix them How to get to the point when speaking and writing Why ALL-CAPS E-MAILs are a no-no Why some politicians get communications and some don't How to avoid "the blob" when presenting This book is for you.

5This book changed our training organization  Jul 25, 2008
After seeing Mr. Yewman present at a conference, I read his book ... a "one-minute manager"-type quick read. Unfortunately, I read it on a flight to present a new product idea to my colleges back at HQ. It RUINED my presentation because all I could think of was how old-school my presentation (bullet points) was and how boring it was. I didn't have time to change the presentation, but now it's changed!

Corporate America is trained on giving information ... not on focusing on the receipt of the message! I have purchased quite a few copies and highly recommend this book. Our training organization is now standardizing on his philosophy.

4Refreshingly to the point!  Apr 12, 2008
Public speaking and getting your message across is extremely important not only for efficiency and productivity but also for clarity and results.
As a professional sports coach, I found many of Dave Yewman's simple ideas and tips absolutley invaluable. It's not only persons in big business that need timely messages to produce excellent results.
A quick and useful read...highly recommended.
