Idyllic remembrance of life in the mid-50's May 22, 2009
By Billmec "On Harrisonville Avenue" is a well rendered memoir that wistfully chronicles the 'happy days' of small town mid-50's. The earnest tone of the writing aptly captures and mirrors the times. I was gently transported to a seemingly more innocent time which I vaguely recall, having been born the year in which most of the story unfolds. I have vivid memories of my own coming-of-age during those formative adolescent years, on the cusp of young adulthood. The sincere sojourn recounted by the author rings quite genuine.
The book is an easy and quick read. The various episodes are uplifting and refreshingly void of cynicism or hyperbole. I recommend this book for those seeking a genuine escape, or anyone craving the sweet nectar of a kinder, gentler time.

Small Town in the 50's Sep 15, 2008

I loved the book, but in all fairness I grew up and still live in the same county. Although I don't know many of the people in the book, I do remember the places. The book would be interesting, I believe, to any one who grew up in "small town America" around the same time...simpler, safer times.
