1TOO MANY MISTAKES ON THE FIRST PAGE  Jan 05, 2010
I received an E-mail from Amazon.com recommending this book. Since it seemed like something I would be very interested in I hot footed over to the site. There were no customer reviews so I decided to try the LOOK INSIDE! to get a feel for the book. Unfortunately I went down in flames after reading the very first page. The very first sentence has "After you have ditched a C-147....." Hmmmmm I thought, that's a new one on me. Never heard of a C-147. But hey, anything is possible so I did a Google images search to learn something new. Alas I came up empty. Moving right along not too many sentences later I read "The C-147 was the plane that the airmen dubbed the Goonybird." That was it, I couldn't take it any longer! The most famous plane ever to fly was the C-47 not a C-147. Actually it was the DC-3 but the USAAF called it a C-47. Then it is Gooney bird not Goonybird! Two words not one plus an e. I wanted so much to order and read this book. The table of contents offered a lot of promise. Sadly if the author cannot get those two simple items correct on the first page I can't image what the rest of the book is like. Sorry Charlie, no sale! To be fair perhaps it was the editor that made the horrendous errors. Be that as it may, I simply won't buy a book like this. The first page told me the book has zero credibility. I admit I didn't come close to reading the entire book. I did read the first page and that told me the book needs a LOT of work! It's a real shame since the subject is a great one. If you have the slightest interest in aviation adventures I strongly suggest you stay away from this book.
