When Matthew Blunt, in his mid-forties still a major, leaves the army all his assumptions about ‘the real world’ are soon challenged. Rootless and quickly disillusioned he is approached by a charismatic but shady former colleague, Tom. Matthew and his restless wife Becky embark on a series of bizarre adventures and misadventures in exotic locations ranging from Corsica to Conakry. They will face three tests. Home in Sussex their wayward children keep them in touch with another reality. As Tom and Becky puzzle over the real reasons for Tom’s generosity, more of Matthew’s own past is revealed. Becky, too, has a secret and has devised her own solution for coping.
