Outstanding First Novel Jan 08, 2009
By Ann Becker I was lucky enough to be given a copy of Peak Experience by a friend. I read it over the holidays and decided the book was one of the best gifts I received. I couldn't believe this was a first book for author Bud Connell. I fell in love with the characters, Trip Price and Julie O'Lonney, and was constantly surprised by the plot twists. Treat yourself to Peak Experience and live vicariously through Trip as he travels the world, makes big bucks, falls in love and finds himself fighting the really bad guys. This is a thriller that delivers. Enjoy!

Did I read a different novel? Jun 24, 2009
By Scott J. Oliphant There was a certain amount of tedium involved in reading this book. For the first half, the "action" (and I use the term loosely) is stuck in LA. It plods along until you finally board the world's largest cruise ship that is (ridiculously) full of dangerous "bad guys" bound for exotic ports of call and extreme sports. This, I thought, must be the turning point. Sadly, the story begins to sputter out as the author closes off any avenue that might prove interesting - no direct engagement with the bad guys, no excitement of setting, no catharsis of Peak Experience. As for the exotic ports of call, perhaps the author has not actually visited these destinations because he is unable to convey the sense of majesty, beauty and mystery associated with any of them.
The characterizations are generally cardboard stereotypes. Arguably, the most development is given to the main character who is not much of a protagonist. The story seems to move forward despite any of his actions (or inaction). He is painted as a series of contradictions and is not very likeable. I just couldn't find myself rooting for him. By the end, I just didn't care.

Taut, tantalizing and terrifying Mar 04, 2009
By Susan B. Stroh Bud Connell builds a page-turner with taut prose, great plot and characters you either care about or despise! I stayed awake several nights in a row to read this. I didn't care if I was tired the next day and looked forward to insomnia the next night so I could read on!
Bud's locations are well researched and his insider knowledge of the games of intelligence and terrorism is uncanny. Makes me wonder if he's lived a double life!
For a fun read that makes you think and lets you see the scary underbelly of corporate greed and nefarious connections, get this book.

Peak Experience Mar 03, 2009

"Nashville Realtor"
Peak Experience is Bud connell's FIRST novel??? Wow! He is right-on and timely with his characters, the trip around the world on a luxury cruise and terrorists! It was exciting to tour the world with Trip Price and the lovely Miss O'Looney. We were able to experience the exotic ports along the way as we found Trip having "peak experience" in business, love, and finally fear and heroism! What a great story, an exciting and timely read. It was thrilling! With a dozen of the largest luxury cruise ships now being built, Bud is timely in his setting. It seems that he has always been ahead of the curve. Can't wait for the second book!
