Pearls of Love: How to Write Love Letters and Love Poems Feb 13, 2000
This is a great book for those of us not used to expressing our feelings. "Love Letters for Dummies" would be another appropriate title. It gives you formats to use, and ideas to fill those formats with. A lot of good examples which are easily modified to fit your specific circumstances are also available. With it, I was able to keep a trans-Pacific long distance relationship going for about 6 months, averaging three letters a month. Fortunately (I can say that now) that romance died out, but the information I retained helped me out in my current relationship which involves being away from my lover for weeks at a time (I'm a sailor). By the way, through peculiar circumstances I once visited the room of the "trans-Pacific" girl after she had already dumped me. I noticed she still kept all my letters, so they must have been good!

No, this is not the way to do it May 03, 2000
By David J. Loftus ...I'm sure Mr. Movsesian is a sincere, lovely human being, butI agree with the previous reviewer that this book could serve as"Love Letters for Dummies" ... only I don't consider that acompliment. The author provides sample love letters and lots of pretty quotes by famous personalities through history, and then gets down to the nitty gritty in detailed outline form, moving from "Use words which are familiar to you" and "Use alternate words to create variety" (all of which requires detailed explanations, apparently) to that all-important reminder: "Determine the subject matter." There are sections devoted to defining the parts of speech, lists of effective words, and dozens of entire "Love Paragraphs," "Love Sentences," and "Love Poems" and poem fragments you can paste right into your declarations from the heart. If all of this sounds a little, well, schematic and calculated, I'm afraid that's how it looks to me. From my perspective, having written and received some dynamite love letters over the years without ever turning to reference works or instruction, this book would only be of use to a person who was either too young really to be in love (say, a 12-year-old), or too illiterate to express something honest, true, and vulnerable that is direct from the heart... I suspect I won't be buying a copy of Mr. Movsesian's poems, thank you very much. END
It saved my relationship... Jan 25, 2004
and probably my life. No need for romantic elitism here, some of us are socially inept enough to actually need "love letters for dummies". Maybe most of us.

This will get you at least four cartons of cigarettes in prison. Apr 07, 2009
By Specific Gravity
I bought this for a friend. This friend spent some time behind bars. He said this was one of the most sought after books. Ever wonder why those women fall for those guys in prison... this is the reason. Guys inside use this book to write their love letters. Now think about the type of guys in prison who would be writing these letters and think of the type of women that would receive said letters. Rocket scientists... probably not.
If you know someone heading to the pen... give them a few copies of this book, it might get them something to barter with.
