Pearls of Prayer: A Twelve Step Journey

"The twelve gates were twelve pearls." Revelation 21:21 Far too often, routine robs prayer of its life-shaking power. Our minds wander. Words come out mechanically. Lack of focus and inspiration keeps us from effectively communicating with God. We know the importance of praying earnestly and wholeheartedly, but sometimes we falter. Happily, there are those who can guide us. Taking the motif of the pearl from Matthew, the Revelation of St. John, and other parts of the Bible, Marilyn Irick introduces Christians to twelve ways of invigorating daily prayer. From creating a sanctuary in the home, to incorporating color and powerful symbols into prayers, Pearls of Prayer offers readers opportunities to expand their devotional techniques and intensify their contact with God.

4Nice Book for People Who Pray  Apr 13, 2007
This is a nice book for people who pray. It is not a book for beginners, really. Rather, it has some nice ideas for adding variety to prayer patterns. For example, one chapter has suggestions for praying and meditating on each of the Ten Commandments. Another chapter on using a labyrinth suggests going from chair to chair or station to station, with prayer ideas at each one. Some of these ideas could be adapted for group use in Bible Studies or retreats.
Despite the title, this book has no connection with 12 step recovery groups such as AA, GA, etc.
I liked this book.

5Prayer Sings  Jan 11, 2007
Best song, best movie, but nothing comes close to best prayers in "Pearls Of Prayer".
