A Father Figure Mar 29, 2008 "Phil,In His Own Words: Our Dad" by Carl Palmieri is a loving tribute to Fathers and Grandfathers everywhere. I grew up without my father being around and this book brought all of my childhood fantasies of what a father would be like, to life. He was the type that put his family first. He loved his life and his work and felt that everything happens for a reason. You have to take a bad situation and make it good.
Although I did not have a father, this definitely inspired me as to the type of father I want for my children. This book is a must read for all.
Reminds Me of My Own Dad Mar 20, 2008 Candid moments and the story of a father are shared in Phil, In His Own Words. As you read through the story of this father you are prompted to share your own memories of your father or grandfather's memory. The quotes from the author's dad are very personal and bring an appreciation for those small moment's with our own parents that may not see significant when they are happening but upon reflection bring a greater understanding and appreciation for our loved ones.
Phil, In His Words: Our Dad Mar 12, 2008 The wisdom of fathers tends to be practical - humorous at times, serious at others. The sentiment of this book is evident on every page. My own family immigrated to America and my grandfather spoke of many of the same trials and lessons that were presented in this book. Dads can sometimes get overlooked when it comes to wisdom and words of comfort, and this is a refreshing read that makes sons and daughters everywhere think of their own fathers with fond memories.
There is no time like dad time. Mar 11, 2008 As tender as a mother's love can be, a father's love is also precious. Our fathers teach us all kinds of important things - how to work hard, be imaginative, and to use what we have handy to fix things.
This book brought back lots of memories of my own dad. The fishing, the household chores, the wisdom that comes with age and with children. I loved this book, and sent it on to my own dad. I am sure that he will love it too.
Remembering Dad Feb 18, 2008 My father passed away when I was seventeen years old and I never really got the chance to gain the sorts of memories that Tuchy Palmieri has of his own father. I like to think that had Daddy lived longer, this book may have come from my own pen. And Tuchy, in this book, has given me the opportunity to make it so, after a fashion.
The beginning of this book is a short biography of the author's father, and describes his family and work ethics, as well as his final illness and death. Phil's passing reminded me very much of my own father's passing, and I found myself weeping, for Phil and his family, as well as for my own father and my own family. Very powerfully and emotionally written.
The main body of the book is filled with quotes by Tuchy's remarkable Dad, on subjects ranging from eating one's meals to working, to being a member of a family and on through the spectrum of life.
Sprinkled throughout the book are sections wherein the reader is encouraged to write down the words of their own father or grandfather. I am looking forward to putting my head together with my sister, my uncle, and family friends to record my own Dad's oft-repeated sayings, and keeping his memory alive through the pages of this book.
Just like in "Josephine: In Her Words", Tuchy Palmieri has brought the past to life, and made a person most of us never had the chance to know real and tangible, and in so doing has reminded us of those in our own family and their words of wisdom and love.
Consider this book as a gift for Father's Day or for a new father.
