Pigs In The Pulpit

Written for Christians who have been manipulated in a church, group or home fellowship setting, Pigs in the Pulpit provides a "road map out" for victims. It shows, step-by-step, how people can get hooked into a fraudulent and deceptive system, the impact of controlling leadership, and how the abused follower of Jesus Christ can find peace and recovery.

5An amazing book, I loved it!  Sep 17, 2009
By LAW "LAW"
This was one of the most compelling books I've ever read in my life. I read it in three days; I literally couldn't put it down!

It contains the author's personal testimony and how he and his family were brainwashed as they went deeper and deeper into a cult-like church. They go through a long, horrible ordeal after they wake up and try to escape. Along the way the author shares many wonderful and thought-provoking insights and resources to help others in similar situations.

His writing style just draws you in; very easy, flowing and concise. He is brutally direct and honest, especially about his own failings, which made reading Pigs in the Pulpit really relatable. I've read other books about spiritual abuse, and as far as I know, this book is the only one written in the first person. It's real storytelling rather than dry, clinical case studies on churches and cults. I loved it.

I highly recommend Pigs in the Pulpit, especially for Christians who have been hurt by church leaders they trusted, or may have a friend or loved one involved in a bad church situation or cult. It will give them a lot of answers they've been looking for.

My own family was involved in a Christian church that had an abusive pastor. It too was like a cult, or a nightmare. I wish we had access to this book years ago, it would have saved us a LOT of pain and grief. I was really blessed by this book and plan to read it again and again.

5Faith, Family and Surprises  Apr 19, 2010
By Mary K. Richter
It's not often one has a relative write a book so when one does, the desire to read it is intense........particularly a non-fiction work. I give kudos to my relative for overcoming his addictions, for the pursuit of a spirtual life and for an awakening to the perils of idolatry. Some may say my high rating is all "relative" but alas, Mr. Wittman writes with ease telling a provacative story with grace and self-deprecation. There are times when I wondered why it was taking him so long to see the "light" but having not been victim to that sort of abuse, perhaps I simply couldn't relate well enough. The book will make you ponder on this particular individual's experience but also will challenge you to ponder on your own. I, too, read the book in a matter of days which is somewhat remarkable given my rather hectic life. Now I only trust that my relative hasn't forsaken organized religion but rather found an "appropriate fire around which he can keep his faith gleaming". A coal alone on the ground soon dims and goes out.
