Horrendous Oct 01, 2008 I too thought that I was ordering a book written by Aaron ELKINS. The book is unbelievably bad and appears to be written by a pre-teen whose first language is not English. Real pre-teens could definitely not identify with the odd dialogue and writing style that bounces between stuffy old-fashioned vocabulary and a weak attempt at "modern" slang. I would be appalled for a child to read this and think that all the grammatical and spelling errors were acceptable. Where was the proofreader???

Not Aaron Elkins Dec 31, 2007 This book is offered together with one of Aaron Elkins mysteries when Elkins name is searched. This author is Aaron Elkin, and this is a book written for youths. In another review of this book, Author Aaron Elkins commented that this pairing is misleading. I wish I had seen this note before I purchased this poorly written book. I think Elkins books are outstanding, so as I was reading this book I started thinking it was a spoof or a joke.
This book is full of grammatical errors. "Treasure in the Pirate's coiffeurs"!! I hope the treasure is in their coffers, not their hairdos. Loose is constantly used for lose. Loosing for losing. To when too should be used. Should have went.... I didn't keep track of these basic mistakes, and I certainly don't want to go back and look for them. I gave up reading this disappointing book after approximately 50 pages.

Correcting a misapprehension Dec 15, 2006 This is not a review of the quality of Pirate's Gold. I wish only to point out that the Aaron Elkin who wrote this book is not the mystery writer Aaron Elkins. This site seems to confuse the two (e.g., offering a twosome of Pirate's Gold and Unnatural Selection (which IS by Aaron Elkins.

Review of Pirate's Gold Nov 01, 2006 I didn't know what to expect reading a kid's book but I have to admit that 1/2 way through I couldn't put the book down. If I were blind and had someone reading this book to me I would have still been on the edge of my seat until the end. The author's descriptions were very clear and very good. I would love to see 6th, 7th and 8th graders reading this in their literature classes. Lots of learning lessons in this book too! Thumbs up!
