5Review of Pirate's Gold  Nov 01, 2006
By Loretta H. Jirsa
I didn't know what to expect reading a kid's book but I have to admit that 1/2 way through I couldn't put the book down. If I were blind and had someone reading this book to me I would have still been on the edge of my seat until the end. The author's descriptions were very clear and very good. I would love to see 6th, 7th and 8th graders reading this in their literature classes. Lots of learning lessons in this book too! Thumbs up!

1Horrendous  Oct 01, 2008

I too thought that I was ordering a book written by Aaron ELKINS. The book is unbelievably bad and appears to be written by a pre-teen whose first language is not English. Real pre-teens could definitely not identify with the odd dialogue and writing style that bounces between stuffy old-fashioned vocabulary and a weak attempt at "modern" slang. I would be appalled for a child to read this and think that all the grammatical and spelling errors were acceptable. Where was the proofreader???
