Platinum Prom: The Crowning of a Beverly Hills Clique, A Novel

Based on actual interviews with Beverly Hills High School students, author Sabrina London weaves a wickedly funny fictional account of typical life at Beverly Hills High. That includes private jets, red carpet events, Chanel runway shows, and impromptu shopping sprees in Las Vegas. And that's just some of the fabulous things that spell out Prom Season in Beverly Hills. The story begins a few months before senior prom, and each chapter counts down to the big night. We meet Claire, April, Tawny, and Shayna, four Beverly seniors, and former clique-mates turned frenemies. Their mission: to throw the biggest after-prom parties, snag the best designer dresses, and be crowned Prom Queen, forever going down in the history books. And nothing will stop them from winning the crown, except for maybe one huge surprise nobody expects. Placing the reader directly on the dance floor at prom, London delivers a satisfying teen read that's also safe for younger Clique readers.

1not very good  Jul 08, 2010

I was excited to read this book because of the reviews but found it to be horrible. The writing was poor and it lacked a plot, really there was no plot or storyline at all. The book had no point and was so unrealistic it was cringe worthy. The girls were horrible and the characters were not developed at all. I did not understand why one acted like a dog when she fell asleep, kind of random. The girls were constantly "barking" at each other and their parents who in reality would not take anything that the girls dished out - what father would really sit in a room alone in the staples center to package gift bags? The girls were all terrible people and all seemed to be stereotypical and the same person. All in all I mean to say it was not a very good book and would not recommend it because of the absence of plot, characters, detail and overall development. I do not mean to insult London herself, she had a very good idea for the book making them all dye their hair blond for prom but, I think that should have been the focus point and the results of that action meaning boys etc... would be the rest of the book

1TERRIBLE  Jul 10, 2010

i honestly think this is the WORST book i have ever read, and that's saying a lot seeing that i have read some painfully bad books. if i could give this book no stars i would. the main characters are all freaks and un-healthily obsessed with prom. the author tries to appeal to the set of clique and gossip girl fans by name dropping all over the place but it is waay to much and way past believable. the girls are all complete bitches with their only emotions being horny, insecurity, and hate. i'm guessing the author was trying to convey the message that girls take things too far for prom and such events or something but this is a VERY hard message to find, buried underneath piles of poorly written "literature," if you can call it that (you shouldn't), un-relatable main characters who starve themselves to fit into dresses and make fun of each other for being virgins, and bitch fits about private planes taking them to vegas and not paris. this book is poorly written, cheap, and just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. if you like to read about girls who are way too over the top, emotionally abuse their parents and friends, crush other girls because they are insecure, and have sex with everyone watching then this book is for you. no offense to the author or to anyone who, shockingly, enjoyed this book.

5Helped my daughter ask a boy to prom!  Nov 09, 2008
By Golf gal
My 16 yr old daughter read this book over the summer, and she not only loved it but used it as inspiration to go up to her crush and ask him to junior prom (way in advance albeit). He said yes, and now they're dating. She went from a wallflower who never dated to a confident young lady who finally got the nerve to ask him out. She's thrilled and could never have done it without Platinum Prom. In this book, the girls take charge of getting their dates to prom and don't wait around for the boy to ask. This book is like my daughter's bible. She raves about it and won't let me read it, but of course I flipped through it and approved it when it came in, and it looked like it was packed with fun prom stories and interesting dialogue. I respect her wishes and won't read it, but it must be something very special. So to all the fellow moms out there, I'd recommend getting a copy of this book. Believe me, it's a lot cheaper than anything else you'll spend on prom.

5Awesome book  Sep 22, 2008
By Nicole
Hi, it's Nicole. I read this with my BFF Paris, and no we're not the famous Paris and Nicole, but everybody in school knows to call us that. Like Paris says, we're seniors and read this book together. It was way better than I thought it was going to be. First of all, the dresses the girls find are way too hot, and their shopping trips are unreal. Anyway, this book rules and like Paris says, the mud scene is one of the best, but I also LOVED the big after party!!!

Everything and anything that can happen at a prom does, and you'd never expect one of the couples that gets together at prom. You'll love it too, especially if you're into reading about dating, friends, and fashion.

5Prom goes platinum!  Mar 15, 2008
By Lil' Deb Superstar
I loved Platinum Prom. As soon as I opened it, I couldn't stop reading it. It's about four rich girls who live in Beverly Hills and are planning their senior prom. But they're not just going to prom. They're competing with each other to win prom queen, and to throw the biggest post-prom party. The girls go wild and hire planners, stylists, and spare no expense on their designer dresses, custom limos, and after-parties that are bigger than weddings! The book is a countdown to prom and follows the group first to Saks to pick out prom dresses, then around Beverly Hills with their prom planners, then to Las Vegas for even more prom dress shopping, and of course to prom, where lots of awesome surprises happen.

The clique is Claire, April, Tawny, and Shayna. Claire's the tall, thin, beautiful blonde type, but she surprisingly isn't as self confident as she seems. She practically starves herself to fit into her tiny designer prom dress. April's the "old money," classic deb in the group, who has a big secret she's keeping from her friends. Tawny's the fun-loving beach bum who's like a guy magnet and attracts boys all over the world. Last there's Shayna, and she's the feisty brunette who's not as "perfect" as the others, and is always trying to keep up with them. It's very funny and some of the best scenes are with the girls going back and forth dissing each other.

I really recommend Platinum Prom and definitely give it five stars. It was a great time and so much fun, especially with prom coming up. Any girl in high school should check out Platinum Prom!
