Small-town politics the way it was Mar 03, 2009

For a real-life memoir of how the good old boys used to run things in small-town America in the 1960's, you can't beat this book by Mayor Quinn. He must have kept every newspaper article, every photograph, and every letter that had something to do with his rise from the ashes of the Great Depression up to his being elected Mayor; the first Catholic mayor in the history of Concord, NH and then to be impeached by those at the top who had everything to lose! Such a story confirms the old adage that truth is stranger than fiction. If you ever thought there might be something crooked going on in city hall; this book confirms it. Great stories, great photos. Mr. Quinn has done us a great service by exposing the corruption that can gain a foothold in any place where there is money and favors to be cashed in on by those who already seem to have it all. Although NH was and is mostly White, there was plenty of prejudices to go around and being Catholic and Irish was not going to get you elected Mayor! No, They didn't like that at all.
