Pop Concert: a novelette in verse

From award-winning poet, written in the early 1950's when optimism was high, suburbs were the new thing, and small children would grow up to be labeled 'baby boomers'. Fanciful poems, enjoyed independently or in context of the novelette, are about love, romance, babies and hopes for her children. Pop Concert, a novelette in verse uses the daydreams and wishes of a mom and housewife in early 1950's Midwestern suburban America. Days filled with music from the phonograph or radio, raising her children, homemaking, and hubby's daily 7pm homecoming were the routine. Weaving into this routine many daydreams and musical references brought forth fanciful and sometimes spicy poems about love, romance, babies and home.

5An intelligent, fancilful and philosphical experience  Nov 26, 2007
By J. Kissell
What a delightful and fun little book! For all of you Baby Boomers who grew up in the 50's and 60's and for the Moms and Pops of those years this book will bring back many memories. Ms Speigle's use of the language of music makes her poems multi-dimensional and her frequent references to the popular culture of the times will take the reader for a walk down memory lane. Although each poem can be enjoyed on it's own, in order to appreciate the unity of the work (it is titled a novelette) I would recommend reading it in one or two sittings. Pop Concert is an intelligent, fanciful and philosophical book that needs to be read several times, and with each time the reader will discover a few more favorite lines, verses and poems, just as I did.
