Author Chat Review-Lynda D. Brown Sep 25, 2011

I highly recommend Maxine Bigby Cunningham's Power Walking for those dealing with the stress of daily living. The author's powerful testimony about her stroke and her road to recovery gives the reader a sense of hope that when the unexpected happens, you can overcome it. The affirmations and scriptures that the author embraced and shares with her readers are very inspiring. This book is a must read!

By Yoko I really enjoyed the book Power Waking. The collection of personal stories, prose and poems were soothing to the soul. I was fortunate to meet the author at a conference for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). She is just as thoughtful and profound as her literature. My inspiration for documenting my own personal writings comes from her. Thank you for this gift.
Power Walking: A Journey to Wholeness Nov 08, 2011

I fund the book very inspiring and familiar in many ways. Our lives seemed parallel in so any ways, but also so very different which made it relatable and interesting for me. As I continued to read the book, it caused me to think about some of the old poems I had written years ago and had forgotten about. Additionally, it inspired me to think about writing again. Many people had asked me to write books in the past and many still suggest it now. Some have offered to work with me on certain projects. But for one reason or another I have rejected the idea; although I have given it serious thought and have gotten as far as outlines and titles on some. Many times I simply was discouraged by something or someone. Nevertheless, it had been on my mind a lot lately, and now after reading "Power Walking" I starting thinking more seriously about writing those books after all. Besides, I already have most of the titles anyway. (Smile)
Also, I really love the picture on the front cover and what it is saying to the reader. The spirituality found throughout the book is a plus and simply adds to the message and the journey which is taken and the journey which I am taking throughout my life. I personal know that I would be nowhere without My Lord and Savoir by my side. It is nice to see a writer acknowledge HIM throughout their journey as well without fear of criticism, considering the issues of today.
Thanks Maxine.

Power Walking Towards Courage Mar 04, 2010

While I was reading Power Walking by Maxine Bigsby Cunningham, I was reminded that writing can heal. As an avid reader, who reads for pleasure and for work, its easy for me to forget about what a transformational experience placing words to page can be. Especially if those words are courageous. Ms. Bigsby's work reads like a lyrical diary of a woman who has decided she wants to be well. It's a book that will make you look at your own life and ask, "Do I want to be well?"
