I purchased this book for a review of the 8-12 English, Language Arts certification test. I recieved the book two days before the test and was able to read it quickly and jot notes about possible questions. I found the book insightful and helpful.
I passed my test!! So good luck!

English 8-12 Certification Book Review Jul 13, 2007
By M. Newton I ordered this book last minute because I decided to take the test at the last minute. This book is extremely helpful when preparing to take the English Certification Exam! I had no idea what kinds of questions to expect or even the format of the exam, but this text led me in the right direction. It contains an overview of important information about authors, the history of English, grammar, practice questions, test taking tips, and more. I recommend this book for anyone preparing to take this exam! The exam is somewhat difficult, but much easier with help from this text.

Helpful preparation for English teachers Mar 17, 2010
By D. M. Downs This book provides everything you need to study for the certification exam in English, Language Arts and Reading for Grades 8-12. It gives a complete list of literary terms and definitions, a review of American and British literature and so much more. It provides everything you need to study in one book. This second edition book also includes a new set of practice questions written in the same style and format as the real exam.

Worth It Feb 16, 2008

I own both this book and the one by Beatrice Mendez Newman. (I was required to buy it for a class at Sam Houston) Although both of them are helpful, I would recommend this one over Mendez Newman's because it actually covers the literary periods and will help you brush up on the major authors. There's just more information The only complaint is that the answers to the practice questions are on the same page...I had to keep covering them up with a piece of paper while studying.

Great Prep Book Apr 12, 2009
By Hilary Cedillo Very good preparation for the test! For someone who thought the test would be over CONTENT buying this book was a rude awakening. I had no idea that they test you over HOW you teach the material so it was great to have this on hand to study and use. If you make notes and do the practice questions at the end of each chapter you should be fine!
