A fascinating look at ancient Judaism Feb 28, 2010
By Michael C. Senturia As a lay reader, I was fascinated by Ms. Blau's study of the twin strands of Judaism (the rational/this-wordly and the messianic/next-worldy) and their relation to the Essenes and the Dead Sea Scrolls. Ms. Blau's organization is clear and her presentation is at once factual, scholarly but also challenging and provocative. Her conjectures regarding the role of eunuchs in shaping Jewish messianism and the possibility that artifical insemination played a role in "divine" conception are riveting. I recommend this book highly.
