Pyramids to Pilgrims Feb 28, 2009 Maggie Art has turned her considerable talent as a public school teacher into writing a remarkable children's book on the causes of downfall of benchmark civilizations such as Egypt, Greece and Rome. Her writing is clear and vivid and the book is beautifully illustrated.
This 90-page guide to world history is a terrific summation of salient facts on the glories and demise of key empires which every child should read. Pyramids to Pilgrims, The Road to America, puts history in an important context for children, one which helps inform them of the challenges our nation faces today.
In her chapter, "Are We Like Rome?" Ms. Art skillfully weaves America's contemporary issues such as our dramatic population growth, looming resource shortages, pollution, decline of quality public education and mass immigration into a cohesive and compelling discussion, which, at the same time, highlights America's strengths.
With Pyramids, young citizens age 10 and up are given the power to take simple action to save their own futures. The author's experiences as a teacher showed her that politicians do listen to young people.
An Important Book For Teachers, Parents and Children Jan 21, 2009 As a teacher I know how important classroom size is. And with California and the nation's population growing by huge numbers, we need to be more aware of our limits. Maggie Art's wonderful new book goes a long way in explaining out problems. Better yet, Art gives you steps you can follow for attainable solutions. Pyramids To Pilgrims: The Road to America
