Real Life

When Jessie Sutherland, an opinion writer for 'Angel Weekly', suffers a few personal and romantic setbacks, her self-esteem takes a nosedive. In an effort to kick-start her life, she accepts an assignment vaguely described as 'a makeover piece set in an exotic location.’ In REAL LIFE, Jessie finds herself on a crazy adventure in the Australian rainforest with a quirky all-male crew and her gorgeous (and conceited) co-worker, Grant Davidson. Jessie is confronted with challenging (and wacky) situations and must come to terms with her fears and weaknesses as she faces each of them head-on. Along the way, Jessie realizes that she is a strong and independent woman whose perception isn’t absolute and that love can happen if she'll just get out of its way.

5Fun characters, incredible dialogue...not an ordinary romance  Jul 15, 2010
By Chris Westbay "--==critter==@"
While I initially picked up this book because I'm a huge fan of Melissa "War Witch" Bianco's contributions to the game City of Heroes, I found I really enjoyed this fun, quirky romance.

Real Life reads like a summer date/chick flick...but the good kind. It's a breezy read with memorable characters, witty dialogue, and an empowering (if a bit fantastic) message.

The story follows Jessica (Jessie) Sutherland, a opinion writer sent on an Australian rainforest adventure as a story assignment.

Teamed with an all-male crew in the woods, clumsy-yet-spunky Jessie is challenged to keep up with the boys and put thru challenges which help her realize she has more inner strength and beauty than she gives herself credit for.

She also finds romance in the form of rival columnist and camp-mate, Grant Davidson. While Grant comes off as the most perfect literal male since Edward Cullen, he's still a likeable and charming character.

About the only drawback to Real Life is the mixed message of a woman finding her inner strength but, at the same time, being whisked away by Prince Charming.

At the point the story leaves the forest, it becomes less Real Life and much more Fantasy, but it still works!

If you like quirky characters, easy-flowing & witty dialogue, and dash of romance, Real Life hits the spot.
