Reconstructing David

This is an intimate story of a mother’s dedication and devotion to her teenage son’s recovery after a brutal motorcycle accident, and the things she learned through David’s long slow journey back from traumatic brain injury. This book takes place from the impact of injury through the six weeks of David’s coma. This book is for both family members who are going through this experience as well as professionals whose task and mission is to provide service and comfort to both the patient and their families. This book provides two important lessons in learning. The first is for family members to better understand the complications of traumatic brain injury and how much it takes to be an advocate. The second lesson is for professionals to realize that family members can be effective partners in the healing process once the professionals learn to listen and treat family members with more trust and respect. They both desperately need each other.

5Very Captivating True Life Story  Jun 02, 2009
By John Paul
This is an amazingly captivating TRUE life story written by Deanna about events and emotions her family and friends experienced surrounding her son David's motorcycle accident. The numerous insights and much wisdom concerning choices and events David's family, friends, doctors and others went through inspires and initiates thoughts that help prepare to ask the right questions, challenge the answers and make informed decisions that most everyone will have to make. Deanna is a life changing, knowledgeable and humorous teacher of a variety of subjects for companies around the globe. I highly recommend this book.
Deanna has personally trained over 300,000 people worldwide on subjects including communication, business writing, negotiating skills, managing time, and resolving conflict. She has presented her programs to some of the largest companies in the world such as Grainger, Volkswagen, Abbott Laboratories, Hospira, Yaskawa, Argonne National Laboratories, and British Airways. She teaches regularly at a local College.

5From head injury and back.....one mother's devotion!  Apr 04, 2009
By Lisa Eve
What a powerful story of a mother who is driven to save her child from the brink of death and the painful healing and recovery of traumatic head injury. I couldn't put it down...a therapeutic read regarding how much it takes to heal a loved one.

5Reconstructing David  Jul 25, 2011
By Nicola Tyler
I've been privileged to know the Scott family and David for more than 20 years. Over that time I got to hear about the accident many times, but never the whole story, beginning to end. Reconstructing David was like having an uninterrupted living room conversation with Deanna where all I wanted to do was listen. Compelling, engaging and authentic this book is so much more than a story about TBI, it is a book of hope, inspiration and courage. It should be read by all parents whose children have suffered any form of extended injury or hospitalisation. In Reconstructing David Deanna takes us on a journey that pulls together the pieces of the puzzle to impart a vivid and at times heart wrenching view of what it feels like to be "mom" during the survival days and weeks of TBI. The book also provides an insight into roles that instinct and love play in the care and recovery process. You will cry, you will be enraged, you will laugh and to top it all you will finish the book wanting to know more. Looking forward to Book Two!
