Great book to get kids playing outdoors! Jan 23, 2010
By D. Lenehan Wow, this book brought back a lot of memories. Times seemed simpler then, when we all got together in our neighborhoods to play these childhood games. Today, our children are shuttled out of their neighborhoods to play in organized, structured programs after school and on weekends. There was something magical about being with the local gang and "coming together, picking teams, making rules and spending all day playing in the streets, courtyards, sidewalks, backyards and porches of our own neighborhoods."
I read on the author's website about a recent study which found that children today spend 7.38 hours per day connected to some form of electronic gadget. I hope that this book encourages them all to get connected with each other instead and spend a few hours playing these fun childhood games.
What I love most about this book is that I can share the memories that it awakens on the associated blog and Facebook page and participate in ongoing discussions about childhood play and the good old days. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Bringing it all back home Feb 19, 2010
By Audrey Hallahan
"Tír na nÓg"
Tom has brought alive what most of us have buried as we all struggle to "earn and spend" in this rat race, and while we are so busy keeping up, our children have become neglected, hence the huge increase in Child obesity. We as parents have a duty and responsibility and moral obligation to bring the fun back into their lives and ultimately ours and what better way than with" "thinking on your feet"," defending your corner", coordination, kindness, generosity, learning to accept defeat and enjoying being on the winning team but most of all the pure fun aspect of it all and the echo of laughter and while all this is going on the body is being stimulated to maintain a level of appropriate health and fitness unawares to all who partake. I for one will be leaving the "bargain basements in search of the much wanted item I dont need and get out there with my kids. Thanks Tom, for bringing it all back home to me! Audrey, Ireland
