Reuben on Wry: The Memoirs of Dave Madden

Dave Madden, the comedian and actor perhaps best known as Reuben Kincaid in The Partridge Family television series tells all. Raised by his aunt in a small midwest town, Dave went on to success as a stand-up comic and actor in Hollywood. Regarded as one of the nicest men in Hollywood, his memoir includes behind the scenes accounts of his experiences, plus never before published photos of the popular Partridge Family "boys," David Cassidy and Danny Bonaduce.

4Good book!  Feb 29, 2008

Reuben Kincaid: You can read about it when I write my memoirs, "The Thrilling Adventures of Reuben Kincaid".

Laurie Partridge: It'll be a thin book.

It may be a thinner book than some celebrity memoirs, but it is thick with enjoyable reading. Mr. Madden's life account is plain and simple, with plenty of great stories about his life and early career as a stand-up comic. His book would not be complete without his personal Partridge Family and Laugh-In anecdotes of which he generously provides. His Reuben Kincaid character is one of my favorite classic tv characters. Thank you Dave, for this gift to your fans.

3Okay...  Mar 15, 2009

Yes, it was funny in places, and yes, there were some quite amusing stories thrown in, but no, I didn't find this as fascinating as I was expecting. Dave Madden has such a, a distinct sense of humor, and though it /was/ in the book...I guess it was the fact that it was in print that threw it off a bit, at least to me.

In places, the memoir seemed to drag a bit, though that was probably my fault for continually putting it down.

I suppose my main complaint is he made almost no reference to working on Adventures in Odyssey -- which I was dying to hear about. All in all though, there were some very interesting tid-bits about show-biz life, and the life of this dry, wry actor/comedian. Just not quite up to what I was expecting.

I have now read the book twice if we read between the lines we find a career in show business very bitter and very sweet ! If a person has The Entertainment Industry as a career plan this is a must read !

5Dave Madden...nothing like Reuben !  Jan 18, 2010

I really enjoyed this book. Dave Madden seems like such a nice guy. I thought it was funny, light hearted and honest. I would love to belong to Davy's Navy group because I think it would be a blast. This is a fun read. If you enjoyed the Partridge Family growing up as a kid you will probably enjoy this book.
