Road Hunter in the Land between the Rivers

"The moral structure, defining what is known to be right and what is accepted as wrong, quickly fades..."

Deployed to Iraq during the historic first rotation of the war, a soldier and his gun truck crew embark on an incredible journey protecting convoys traveling military supply routes. Tasked to provide military support, his convoy security team - Road Hunter One Six - encounters extraordinary challenges as the insurgents shift their disruptive aim from the coalition force controlled cities and infiltrate the once peaceful desert highways.

From the rolling plains of the Dakotas to the endless sand dunes of Iraq, the author opens his personal journal and guides readers through his team's experiences of perpetual struggle. Incidents gathered from assistance in over 270 convoy missions as well as numerous patrols to include aiding the legendary Black Watch near the Triangle of Death and a strange paranormal occurrence.

(This title details a firsthand account of the harsh, dangerous, and chaotic life of gun truck soldiers.)

5Great sense of place  Jan 30, 2009
By MaryBeth Dawson
This was a great book, it did a very good job of describing the physical environment, and the emotional roller coaster of being deployed in a hazardous and uncontrollable situation. I especially liked how it did not focus on just the dangers faced from the enemy, but on the wearing effect of performing a difficult mission that does not seem to make sense sometimes, and having to tolerate general military bureaucratic crap, which seems especially bad for the Reserve and Guard units.

5Great Book  Aug 29, 2007

I thought this was a great book. It did a good job of making the experience real to the reader. You get a real sense of how things are over there for the soldiers and what they are going through.

5How it was........  Sep 12, 2007
By Tony Leptien "Lunchbox"
"Lew," as he was known to me, Sgt Leptien, did an outstanding job puting this book together. Everything that was wrote was real, and accually gave me a few 'flashbacks' to somethings I once forgot. My family appriciates the book very much, since it was the best way for them to know what we did. Good Job Lew! Road Hunter 16

5Roadhunter Life  Aug 18, 2007
By Mark Reif "Roadhunter 15"
Being in Iraq with James and being a part of one of the Roadhunter Teams, James does a very good job of telling how life in Iraq was for us. This book gives a first hand view of the good we encountered and the "pain in the butt" moments. It also shares the moments when we all wish we could be home with our loved ones.
