5A very touching book.  Jan 01, 2010
By K. Hanlin "Kristen"
This is a wonderfully written book. I am in awe of the mother who took the news that her husband and father of their 3 children was dying of Brain Cancer. She shared everything detail with her daughters. Helping them understand everything that was going on during the actual illness and death.

I bought this book to read with my 21 year old son, who is Autistic. His father was diagnosed with cancer on 10/2/09 and died on 12/15/09. Unfortunately his father and I divorced and I remarried ended up moving to Texas, while he remained in Pennsylvania. But they spent quality time together every year, taking trips together. And his dad even came to Texas to be a part of our son's 21st birthday in September, a mere weeks before this tragic diagnosis. But the distance prevented me from being able to expose my son to all the illnesses effect on his father, sharing everything and letting him see first hand. We did take a road trip to see his Dad in October. And I am grateful we did, because our plans were to spend the holiday winter break from school in PA, but we did not make it in time to see him alive again. I am dealing with a adult son whose cognitive level of development is much younger, so the understanding is going to be a working progress.

We read the book together. I pointed out the parts of the book that we have just experienced. I do think it helped in the understanding. This was my purpose in looking for such a book as this.

While I do not wish this situation on anyone, this is a very good book, very well written and I would highly recommend to anyone going through this situation.

Peace, Kristen
