Sadly Breathes the Song is the story of Stewart Thomas, a young Ohio farmer caught up in a war where the causes mean little to him. The complicated society that is the antebellum South is alien to all of his beliefs, and the "enemy" population among whom Stewart find himself provides surprising friendships as well as cruel foes.
