Saguaro Express Aug 28, 2009
By Michael Kapic Saguaro Express is a fast acting tale of drugs and love entanglements in a bygone era. Evans develops his characters throughout this plot driven account of drug smuggling in the early seventies. The action-suspense plot is interrupted by periods of respite while Neil Burton and his young friend, Kelly reestablish their childhood relationship. After all of the detail leading to it, readers will be surprised by an ending with some unwarranted ambiguity. Several sub-plots entangle Neil with his old friend W.C., his wife, his computer job, and the young girl from his childhood. Neil is a nice guy who's having difficulty making up his mind which side of the fence he wants to sit on. A good read.

Romance and adventure Apr 14, 2010
By Roberta Roth John Evan's first novel, Saguaro Express, is an easy read and a good adventure novel. Set in the 1970's amid the drama of marijuana smuggling, an 'ordinary' guy gets caught up in a dangerous decision in order to help his friends and protect his longtime friend and love, Kelly. The characters are charming, colorful, and fairly well developed, and the surprise ending still has me guessing. Read Saguaro Express. It's a good story - believable, with the right amount of excitement. I think you'll enjoy it.
