Sailing With Carol: A Love Story

Sailing with Carol is about love and sailing; a childhood romance, separation, and reunion. First playmates, we became sweethearts until in the turmoil of the sixties, we walked diverse paths. Reunited decades later, we pursued our dreams, living an enchanted existence for twenty-one years, sailing our boats to faraway places. During those voyages Carol mastered her fears and honed the resolve she would so desperately need in the final years of her life. From novice boater to skilled sailor, she dealt with life's extremes. Sailing became a metaphor for all other aspects of her growth as a woman and she became more confident in her seamanship and everyday life. As best friends, our union became symbiotic, especially when sailing. She became more comfortable with her sexuality, but also steered our boats in storms and stood by me to fight off thugs on a New York dock. She could be angelically innocent, or shamelessly seductive. She was all any man could want in a woman and partner.

5An unbelivable Love Story !  Sep 08, 2009
By Gary Saunders
From previous reviews I had an an idea of what this story was about, but would never would have guessed how involved I got with the story. I couldn't put it down. I laughed ... I cried .... I cried again. I finished it outside on the deck and I am not sure what the neighbors were thinking.

This was an incredible journey watching Carol grow from novice shiphand to experinced "Captain". Through your writing I felt as if I was in the cabin with you.

You are more then lucky, you were blessed to have had the experiences and time with Carol. She was one in a million!

A must read.

5The real deal!  Mar 23, 2009
By G. J. Mount "jibster"
Ieva is a great story teller and this is a story that needs to be told. You will laugh (especially if you've ever been in a sinking dingy full of beer) and you will cry, but most importanlty you will live life with Ron and Carol and learn the definition of comittment. For those of us who have lost the love of our life Ron causes us to remember the beauty of sharing everything with one person, the highs, the lows, the grist of life when each of you is the center for the other. And it's all told in a voice that speaks with the clarity of someone who knows first hand about life, love, the sea, and the mystery of romance.

5A true life love story!  Jun 18, 2009
By Laurie A. Harris
If you love a romance novel you will adore this book - it's a true story! It takes you through the life of young lovers who lose touch only to find each other years later and pick up right where they left off. Combine this with trials and tribulations of sailing up and down the eastern seaboard you get a fantastic book.

As I got to the end of the book, I didn't want the story to end. I found myself re-reading the last few paragraphs just so it wouldn't end. This is an amazing story captured beautifully by Ron as a tribute to an amazing woman - Carol.

Thank you for sharing your lives with us!

5Love, sailing, disaster, plus it's a true story!  Aug 27, 2011
By Roger L. Cunningham "nengaku"
Ieva tells his personal story in a compelling way that draws you into his life and leaves you grieving with him over the loss of the love of his life. His stories of sailing in Long Island Sound, the Cheasapeke, around New York City and in Florida took me back to some excellent days on the water. Looking forward to any future books and articles by Mr. Ieva.

5Beautiful, Captivating  Feb 08, 2010
By Jennifer L. Keller
I recently read Sailing with Carol. After I read the first couple pages I was instantly intrigued. Mr. Ieva's writing is just so real. so passionate. Every word was like the man was telling me his story face to face. To share this kind of love is captivating. It is a beautiful story, unfortunatly with such a heart break. I laughed hystericaly, I bawled my eyes out. It is just so good to finaly read a book really telling it how it is and written extremly well. This is on my must read list, and recommending to all.
