A great book, on multiple leves Apr 28, 2007 "Saturday Morning Omelettes" by Kavita Khannen is a terrific book. The story is compelling, the characters are fascinating, the background is absorbing. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it.
One of the many reasons I loved this book is that it works on so many different levels. The people in the book are very real--they have good points and flaws. They're interesting, and very "human." Then, the book is a fascinating insight into a culture that is very different from my own, and the fascination increases as the story describes the melding of the new culture with the familiar one. THere's so much here that's just so new to me...I was open-mouthed with amazement, yet felt throughout, "This just all makes so much sense!"
The ending just begs for a sequel...it's very "Gone with the Wind"-like, in that you just so badly want to know how it all turns out in the future. Ms. Khannen: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE write the follow-up...we just have to know what happens next!
Congratulations to the author on writing an incredibly interesting, informative, and entertaining book. It's one of the best I've read in years!

A well-written novel Feb 05, 2007 "Saturday Morning Omelettes" is a realistic depiction of everyday life in upper-middle class India. The social support as well as societal pressures are accurately represented. The author weaves a tale of trial and triumph, and more trial. The ending, though unexpected, is powerful. The author has the ability to make the reader feel the emotions of the characters. Overall a very well written book.

A Great Debut ! Nov 18, 2006 Very well writen book - basically draws you in and keeps you engaged throughout....Couldn't put it down and was eager to know the ending (which was very unexpected). The passages connecting the storyline to the Indian epic Ramayana are elegant and contribute critically to the overall feeling of authenticity that the author manages to create. Already looking forward to more work from Kavita...

Feedback on Saturday Morning Omlettes Nov 06, 2006 Very well written - the author has done an amazing job depicting the Ramayana in today's day and age. You get involved in the lives of Riya and Amit as they go through ups and downs in their lives. I didn't realize that my eyes were moist in a few places, especially when Amit's father passes away, and finally, when Riya is made to travel back to the old age home.
All in all, a very engrossing book - a MUST read !!!!

A must read contemporary epic... Oct 26, 2006 Very heartwarming story and extremely well written. I could not put the book down, once I started reading. I especially loved the beautiful poems at the end of the chapters and how the author has related the events to Hindu Holy book of Ramayana. There were a lot of things that I could relate to, experiences of first timers in US, for one. While most of the book was very realistic, the end was a little unexpected. I felt that it was unfair of Amit to make a unilateral decision about Riya, while not considering Riya's true love and happiness which were Saturday Morning Omelettes and not the other life. All in all, I really enjoyed reading the book and can't wait for a sequel or another book from the author.
