A must-have tool for anyone who writes anything Feb 04, 2010
By Happy Writer I'm a writer by profession, and I keep this little book beside me all the time when I work. I have all the usual writing/grammar books one would expect a writer to own; however, this is by far my favorite, because not only does it give the reader the proper usage for all the most common and nagging "challenges" of the English language, it does it simply and easily. Who vs. whom. Lay vs. lie. Disinterested vs. uninterested. And more. Things you may THINK you know may turn out to be wrong. Furthermore, Ms. Hanna's writing style is a wonderful combination of breezy and wry, Mr. McLaughlin's illustrations a delight. You don't have to pore over pages of indexes in tiny type to find what you're looking for, because "Say It Right" boils everything down so concisely. I can think of countless individuals who would find it useful. It would be a great little gift for students, for grads, and for writers and non-writers alike. It would be an outstanding tool for those whose second language is English. For those who love to write and/or do it for a living, it's handy, because you can turn to it for reassurance or guidance. For those who are less confident in their speech or writing, it does the same! And it's small enough (about 4" X 6"?) to carry around in a handbag or with your laptop. Own this book!
Delightful reference book May 04, 2011
By RJM This is quite a fun book and very instructive about language correctness and I've never been so aware of what I'm writing since it's a review for a book about proper english usage. Oh well I hope Ms Hanna forgives me if I've made a blunder. This book is lots of fun too! ( OOps I said that already.)
