Real and Raw Jan 17, 2007
By angela juarez The book is so real and so raw. It is provoking and inviting. I found myself looking back into my own life wondering and discovering how I've been "extreme". I was drawn into the author's world, whether it be in the bars, prisons or commune. If you've ever wondered how someone could "do that" or "be that way," your wondering is over; Scalded spells it out by taking us through one event at a time. We see "Samsara" change and grow and learn much like the rest of us-through pain, mistakes and shame, only to come out on the other end full of hope, humility, serenity and acceptance. The author is more than courageous to give to us what few people can-honesty and vulnerability. Wouldn't it be a better world if our private thoughts were no longer taboo-if we could be real and yet still be met with acceptance. With Scalded, Longo-Disse is making it a better world. I, for one, welcome it.
Incredible journey! Mar 04, 2008
By L. Vaughan Scalded is an incredible journey of one woman's trials in life and how she came through it all to find peace and joy on the other side. The book is touching and thought provoking and will keep you on locked in and unable to put it down because you have to know what happens next. The fact that this engaging, entertaining and challenging ride is a true story is mind blowing. My mind can hardly wrap around the journey of this inspiring woman. You won't be disapointed!
Ecstasy is not Enlightenment Jul 05, 2007
By Robert Colacurcio Scalded falls somewhere between a confessional a la St.Augustine and a morality tale that might have been told by a pilgrim from the Canterbury Tales. It definitely qualifies for the "truth being more bizarre than fiction" category, and would make one helluva movie!
Highly Recommended Apr 02, 2007
By J. Johnson I have recommended this book to many, many people. I believe that most everyone who reads this book will find at least a small part of their personality expressed in it's pages. For me, Scalded was uncomfortable on some levels, laugh-out-loud funny, honest, sad and thought-provoking. Once I opened the book, it was very hard to put down and I finished it in 2 days. You won't be disappointed...one of the best books I have read in a long time.
a real page turner Feb 03, 2007
By D. Rudell I could not put this book down! Each of the adventures and episodes were so interesting and exciting. And to think that these were real life adventures.... This book was also thought provoking and helped me to look at my own life and marvel at the mystery of how we are all directed and motivated throughout our lives.
