great book Jul 26, 2011
By Dustin & Heather Kelley I was born and raised in Colorado, I am a "later day hippie" born in the early 70's. I loved this book! I read it in a few days and shared it with my mother, she enjoyed it as well! Zuber-Chall wrote about events and feelings that were bold, revolutionary, and even sinful (to some). She gave great descriptions therefore making it easy to become immersed and imagine the events, environment and people. The book left me wanting more, maybe a sequel?

Great read and a Great Ride! Jul 26, 2010
By Linda L Hardesty This book is thoroughly enjoyable. Even though I grew up in basically the same time frame, this was insight into the hippie lifestyle that I never knew. I started reading this book and couldn't put it down until (unfortunately) it came to an end. I really enjoyed being included in Susan's life. Awesome. Thanks, Susan!

Reassuring & Relaxing Apr 20, 2010

This book will truly change your life in so many ways, especially if you are at a crossroads like I am, and was at the time of reading it. Dr. Zuber-Chall describes how her background and initially following social institutions led her to follow a drastically unconventional trajectory into communal living. I cannot say how this tale winds up, but it is acceptable to say that she limits her bias and tells the story from a highly sociological standpoint - as someone who immerses but still has some reservations initially. The characters that come in and out of Ward during her stint there are memorable and immortal archetypes of an Americana we seldom hear about in a true story. She manages to show them in every dimension and exposing their vices in such a way that is not judging them. This book was enormously satisfying and helped me get off my social climbing bent... you'll have to see for yourself what it will do for you.

An intriguing and enticing read, highly recommended Mar 11, 2010
By Midwest Book Review A hippy was a bit of all the cliches really. "Sex, Sinners, & Hippies" is a memoir of one of these hippies as Susan Zuber-Chall reflects on her own time in the world of peace, love, and revolution, as she reflects on the many things she experienced during the height of the hippy movement of the sixties and early seventies, granting first person insight into this world and everything around it. "Sex, Sinners, & Hippies" is an intriguing and enticing read, highly recommended.

Worth Every Penny Nov 04, 2009
By April Lester Warning: Once you pick up this book you will be unable to put it down. It tells the story of one brave woman who protests her abusive marriage in a time when it was not socially acceptable to do so, who takes her children to live in an environment that she dictates, not society. It really shows the "love" side of free love, for example, in hippie's society it is commonly believed that everyone just slept with everyone, but Dr. Zuber-Chall explains that there was a relaxed attitutude toward sex just as long as no one was hurt in the process, folks dissaproved when there was sneaking around and someone got their feelings hurt. This book really made me want to go rough it in the mountains, or join a commune of peace loving hippies. There is only one problem with this book: we need a part two! I felt like the story was over before I was done reading. It was a great read, very insightful while, also, very entertaining.
