At Last! Oct 10, 2011
By sws53 Shattering the Truth refutes the absurd and vapid prattle of Thomas DiLorenzo. Mr. Brandt presents fresh insight to Lincoln Studies and provides important evidence to support his thesis that DiLorenzo speaks nonsense. The Libertarians and Neo-Confederates faun over their Emperor, DiLorenzo. Mr. Brandt has the research, intelligence, and courage to declare that the Emperor is naked. Additionally, reading DiLorenzo and Brandt provide the reader a point-counterpoint exercise in the importance of critical thinking. After reading Brandt, the reader can't help but to see that he or she has been conned by DiLorenzo's circuitous claptrap.
And Mr. Brandt does not limit his analysis to DiLorenzo. He critiques Clyde N. Wilson, Lerone Bennett, and others, exposing flaws in their conclusions.
Well done, Mr. Brandt.

Lincoln myth "gatekeeper" crybaby Aug 01, 2011
By G. T. Brooks
"Truth seeker"
When someone's actions are so egregious, those actions speak for themselves--no one needs to slander them. Such is the case with Lincoln. Mr. Brandt's defense of Lincoln's egregious actions make him little more than one of the Lincoln "gatekeeper" crybabies. The facts are plain--Lincoln refused all peace envoys from both North and South because he WANTED WAR!!! So, we had a national leader who WILLINGLY slaughtered hundreds of thousands of his fellow countrymen in order to achieve his political ends! This clearly shows Lincoln has much more in common with leaders like Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and Pol Pot and other such despots than he does with the founding fathers like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, etc. Mr. Brandt and his lackys have attacked Mr. DiLorenzo with groundless charges of calling him the leader of the "I hate America separatist movement," and the "blame America first crowd." Mr. DiLorenzo is none of these. His works about Lincoln are well researched and quote a plethora of original sources (check the footnotes and bibliography). I would further add that Mr. DiLorenzo's works about Lincoln are very timely for today, because Lincoln's victory brought about an all powerful Federal government that resulted in unbridled taxing and spending; you just need to look at America today and what it has become, a dictatorial socialist state that is $14 trillion in debt!!! Thank you Mr. Lincoln (for nothing)!

Waste of Time Jul 23, 2010
By DryvBy A book written by a total and complete liberal that wants you to think the Constitution is a "living, breathing" document. IE: we can change it with the times. Defending Lincoln for shutting down newspapers that opposed the war (freedom of speech), starting a war that wasn't necessary (that killed 600,000 men, blacks included), deporting politicians that rivaled him, etc... that's like defending Hitler because ya know what, for a short while, Hitler did fix Germany's economic woes.
Yeah, a total waste of time and money.

Worthless Jan 25, 2011
By N. Ward Waste of time book. Written for idiots who think Lincoln was a god of some sort. No defender of Lincoln should ignore that he purposely SILENCED freedom of speech (ie, shutting down newspaper outlets that disagreed with him). But alas, a book was written with such purpose in mind.

A Remarkable Achievement Jul 31, 2010
By Wayne Lutz Mr. Brandt has taken on the "blame America first crowd" with this fact-filled volume. Thomas DiLorenzo is one of the many egregious people who see fit to attact our American traditions. Why do more not stand up to these scornful contemptuous scoundrels? Honest Abe would never back down from a fight and neither does Brandt. He uses fact to destroy Dilorenzo's opinions. Facts over opinions? Unheard of in DiLorenzo's world. The book is well researched and documented. Read it and decide for yourself.
