Shilo and Tonka Dec 11, 2007 Shilo and Tonka, Masters of Mischief and Mayhem, is a good book because they are dogs that go on adventures and its from the dogs' point of view. The author writes it from Shilo and Tonka's point of view which I think is cool. I recommend this book to elementry school readers because it is an easy read and it tells what a dog does when the dog is telling the story. I think that it was kind of sad when Tonka got pancreatitis.

It's a quick read, but very entertaining for young students. Dec 05, 2007 I have used this book in classrooms of eighth graders to explain the narrative process. It has worked wonderfully well because the chapters are short and we can deal with characterization, setting, point of view, verb tense and much more in our daily mini-lessons.
The students have been highly engaged in reading chapter to chapter and even the reluctant readers seemed excited with the story. Even better is the fact that the story has encouraged them to become authors themselves.
