A Series in the Making Sep 18, 2009 In fairness to the reader of this review, I have know Douglas "Doug" Danielson since high school. Many years ago, he presented an early draft of Shore Loser to me for my review, I could barely get through the first two chapters ... that must have been 10 years ago ... well, times have changed!
Shore Loser is a solid story, well told. When I read the published edition I entered the world of Jake Mortensen and his friends with caution. I was soon impressed, however, with the natural (as if you are there) description of their characters and quickly became intrigued with the drama that began to unfold, not like a high powered race-car in the Indianapolis 500 (like so many formula novels) but like a finely tuned 12-meter sailboat sailing upwind ... carefully, strategically, tacking back and forth as it moves toward its mark
By the end of the story Jake and his buddies (especially Toey) were my friends and I was sad to see them leave. I look forward to their return.
Believable salty story with vivid characters Jul 03, 2009 I am sixty-five year's old, dyslexic and never read for pleasure. On vacation one evening in a china filled reading room, I opened Shore Loser for a quick perusal. To my great surprise I read until I fell asleep. First thing the next morning I jumped back into the story and did not put it down until I finished. This was a first cover to cover novel read for me and I was disappointed when I ran out of pages. The good news is the author Doug Danielson has a follow-on novel titled Wet Dreams that will published later this summer. I am looking forward to Jake's future endeavors.
Turning the Crusing Under Sail Lifestyle Into an Exciting Novel!!!! Oct 05, 2008 This book made my memories of cruising under sail vividly "flashback." Mr. Danielson's descriptions and explanations rekindled all of my wonderful memories of cruising the Mexican Pacific coast and the Sea of Cortex. Both the places and people became very real when seen through my 6 years of cruising the same Mexican water and anchorages as "Shore Losers" stories. Both the hardships and soaring heights of delight I experienced first hand were faced and enjoyed by "Jake" the delivery skipper. Mr. Danielson's own web page http://www.doug-danielson.com/ explains the solid basis of his knowledge of this wonderful lifestyle.
Mr. Danielson certainly "knows his Stuff" and tells it like it really is while threading a suspenseful story of adventure, conflicts, passion and romance. I can't wait for Mr. Danielson's next book.

Great adventure! May 08, 2008 Loved the book! A great adventure that even someone with limited boat experience can follow (and even learn a little!). The story moved and kept me held to the end. I really enjoyed the characters and look forward to their next adventure...
Shore entertaining! Jan 18, 2008 Nicely drawn characters with a real-life feel. Mr. Danielson writes with authority and sensitivity about the places, people and actions he brings to the reader. Enjoyable adventure with believable events and obvious depth of expertise in boats, locales and the kinds of characters found in the nautical crowd. Looking forward to a sequel!
