Silktail: A Fiji Ecothriller

In evocative island settings, a cast of international characters mix an intriguing cocktail of murders, tropical passion and Fiji humour. The year is 1990 and a nuclear bomb's been spirited from Moruroa, France's military atoll, and smuggled to the Fiji Islands. Islamic extremists are trans-shipping the bomb through the islands to a mystery consignee. French special forces and the Fiji military try to track down the bomb and its shadowy high-jackers. The chase takes them through the brothels and backwaters of Papeete and Suva, to down-at-heel Taveuni copra estates, and then out to remote atolls in northern Fiji. Taveuni ornithologist, Jack Costello and Madeleine Bouvier, a coral reef conservationist, struggle with developers intent on over-expoliting the islands. Their tentative love affair is thrown into confusion by Madeleine's past activities in France. When they and their Fijian friends become embroiled in the bomb-chase, Jack and Madeleine must take matters into their own hands.

5An evocative adventure you will feel part of.  Nov 23, 2007
By Annemarie Rolls "Mieke"
This is a well crafted story clearly built from a foundation of real knowledge and thorough research. So while the adventure is a gripping, can't put it down piece of fiction it is grounded in an important awareness of more serious issues such as the environment and politics. The most delightful thing about reading this book was the feeling of being a part of the story - isn't that the gift of any good fiction!

4Page turner  Jun 08, 2009
By Red Most "Book Sleuth"
I bought this book to read on a holiday in Fiji, thinking that I might read a few pages on the beach. I started the book as the plane took off, and read non stop till finished. A terrific read with all the exotic elements of Island life, well crafted and witty. But more than anything this book is a rollercoaster ride at full speed through the Islands, pausing only for the occassional romantic interlude. A must read.

5Silktail  Feb 07, 2009
By Ted Scherrer
A colorful pageturner with the eloquence of Steinbeck mixed with a little Ian Fleming. The author set you on a nonstop adventure with such lush description that you really feel like you're at Jack Costello's side. A must read for South Pacific romantics!

5Put this in the Christmas stocking? You won't be disappointed.  Dec 04, 2007
By T. Shand
A "can't put it down" read. Includes South Pacific nuclear & ecological issues, stunning descriptions of the beauty of Fiji, a detailed understanding of life in Fiji, a thrilling chase and a great love story. You won't go wrong putting this in the Christmas stocking - or taking it on holiday for that matter. Well worth it.
