Finally, REAL and relavent advice for the everyman(or woman)!! Jan 10, 2010

This is one of the quirkiest, funny and more importantly, relevant, finacial advice books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Written by a person who, as she puts it, learnt through the "school of hard knocks", and it shows. It gives simple, real advice you can get your teeth into and not just about money, but also about how to enjoy living life, in fact that is what makes this book different, in that it shows you ways of gaining financial freedom whilst still being able to have fun, showing you a way to change your mindset about money at a fundamental level and that, is a rare thing. It is in a way similar to "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki in that it looks to change your way of regarding money, but where it is different is that where others will tell you what to spend your money on, the author asks you why you are spending it, and how you could save it with losing any of the 'benifits' you would have had if you had spent it. After reading this book I felt like giving myself an uppercut when I realized what I had been spending my hard earned dollars on and what with a little bit of thought saved it for a better living standard. Written by a streetwise oldschool person for the modern world, Simply Fantastic is what it says it is (finally, truth in advertising!). I recommend this book to anyone who wants the weight of finacial burden lifted from their shoulders without detracting from their life and has a sense of humour (don't worry, its a great thing, you will find out when you read it! :) ). "Simply Fantastic : Living Better on Less" is a guide for readers to cut their costs and have a better life in spite of penny pinching. With countless tips and guides to researching more, Lesley Voth gives advice on what to change in one's life to lead to a better life on many levels. A great book for everyone to read and give as a gift Sep 15, 2009
By S. Morgenroth Similar to technical knowledge, sales training, music lessons and motorcycle riding, one can never receive too many pointers for improvement. Even if you are an expert on a subject and attend a seminar, take a class, or read a new book, you are bound to pick up a few new good ideas (In the case of this book it is for saving money, as I did, in Simply Fantastic). I am fortunate to know the author, and can say that the book is light hearted, easy to read, pleasant and true to her personality and desire to help people save money and live better on less. Lesley provides the readers with her unique international personal experience, creative ideas and clever websites to pursue each subject in depth. It is a great book to read and give as a gift.

Simply okay; poorly edited and proofread Jan 09, 2010
By szan18 This book was really disappointing. I expected so much more based on the description on the back cover which was fantastic. Most of the ideas, unfortunately, are very common sensical--even to those new to frugal living. The other major drawback was the fact that the book was poorly edited and in need of some serious proofreading. The author acknowledged her "friend" for editing and proofreading. I think she needs a new friend. Good friends don't let their friends submit a manuscript with so many errors. For instance, I'm all for having a fully stocked pantry, but a fully stocked panty? Ewww. Also, in the "entertaining yourself for free" chapter there is that usual suggestion that sex is free entertainment. Enjoy!, Ms. Voth says. However, in the author's example, the sex she refers to is "usually free." Huh? Dear friends, if you are paying anything for sex then you are obviously looking for a tax-payer sponsored ride to the county jail. There are too many errors in this book to list and I found it terribly distracting.
I gave this book two stars for very sound advice in Chapter 13: Your Job: Be the Best You Can Be and for Chapter 18: Useful Websites. Alas, even here there are issues. She lists the same website twice for no apparent reason and then lists it again a third time to reference a separate article contained therein.
Borrow this book from the library and save your money.
