A touching and revealing account May 30, 2008
By Sparkle Not long after 9/11 and in the midst the DC Sniper shootings, Karen and I worked together. It was highly stressful living in the Northern VA/DC area at that time. She and I both had big screen TVs so we were the two that would host friends and co-workers at our homes for American Idol Parties. Seemingly lame, I know... but not at that time. You see, people were scared to be in public places for fear of becoming random shooting victims. We had wholesome fun, judging contestants and sharing pot luck dinners. It was down to Justin and Kelly.
I had no idea this smart, pretty, talented girl was struggling so much. Then, on May 9th, 2008, I received an email from a former collegue giving me a synopsis of Karen's book and informing me of it's impending publication date. I was stunned. I bought it and read it the first day.
As I look back now after reading her book, I wish I would have known more about alcoholism and the behaviors that can result. I know now to reach out to someone even if I'm not sure, or I think it is none of my business. The worst that can happen is they get angry at me for it. So what? The good that can happen is they may be asking in thier own way for help. It can be so easy to pass up those clues when you just don't know. She was 4'11, of course a cocktail would "go to her head" quickly. Who knew? Maybe it wasn't as evident that early on, maybe it was. I am sure we missed something.
Interestingly, I never thought our paths would cross again, even though she may be surprised to know that I mention her often. She taught me the phrase... "It is what it is!" I use it as my personal coping mantra and have shared it with many people I know. When times get tough and you have to just step up and deal... acceptance is as simple as saying... "It is what it is!"
Karen's book is a good read for anyone. It is an opportunity to learn that all alcoholics are not all stereotypical. They can work right in your same office, have dinner with you and you may never know. Karen has taugh me now, how to know. Thank you Karen. I am happy for your life recovery and wish you continued success.

A courageous, uplifting and hope-inspiring story Jun 09, 2008
By Kitty Foth-Regner
"author of Heaven Without Her"
I could hardly put this book down. The author has done a courageous job of describing both her alcohol-drenched "before" and the joyous "after" she is now living. I'm not certain that she intended her story to be a demonstration of the transforming power of the Lord Jesus Christ, but that's certainly what it is. I'll bet many readers enslaved to alcohol or other drugs will identify with her struggles and failures; and I'll bet at least some will follow her lead in turning to God Himself for the solution today and forevermore. Well done, Mrs. Price!

Do Not buy this book Apr 13, 2010
By Karen M. Ippolito o Do not buy this book. It is very badly written, riddled with grammatical errors, and badly organized. The author has obviously had a harrowing time with alcohol, but the plodding narrative renders all of her experiences moot. I can only assume that the people who gave this dreadful, and overpriced book, five stars were friends or relatives of the hapless author. She claims to have a BA and an MBA. Reading her book, it is difficult to believe she graduated from high school.
If you are interested a good first-person account of a woman's struggle with addiction and her recovery, read Carolyn Knapp, Mary Karr or Heather King. Or just about anyone but this lady.
