5"Good Night Moon", meet "Sleepy Sun!"  Aug 03, 2007
By Dark Walker
Charming text and stunning illustrations make this book an absolute must for bedtime reading. "Good Night Moon," meet "Sleepy Sun,"... another classic bedtime story! Children will be enchanted with the verse and the illustrations. I could frame every page and decorate a child's room with them! Sunny and bright, the warm colors reflect the love and warmth of that special feeling of snuggling in bed with your child and a good book as the sun grows sleepy at the end of the day.

5Sweet book, with great illustrations  Oct 08, 2009
By L. Perez
As a member of the Mama Buzz group, I was provided with a review copy of Sleepy Sun, by the author, Mari Hanson.
Sleepy Sun is a bedtime story for toddlers and young children. The story follows the sun, as it illuminates places and activities all over the world. At the end of a long busy day, the sun sets, and goes to sleep. The story incorporates a loose rhyming structure, which is always a plus for little ones. (My four year old loves rhyming stories.) The story will engage your preschooler who asks questions like "where does the sun go at night?"
The illustrations are gorgeous. The paintings depict the sun shining down on people and landscapes all over the world. There are beaches, mountains, cornfields, the desert, a city street, and more. The sun looks and "feels" different in each picture. It's big and yellow at the beach, orange and hot in the desert. My first impression was that the illustrations definitely had a Southwestern influence, and when I read the bios at the back of the book, I found out the artist lives in Arizona.
I liked the fact that the pictures of people in the book represented a great deal of ethnic diversity. It's important to me to expose my kids to as much diversity as I can, however I can, since I can't physically take them everywhere, or have them meet everyone.
All in all, I found this to be a sweet book, which brought to mind classic bedtime stories like Goodnight Moon. At the end of the the book, the moon goes to bed, and (hopefully,) your little one does too.

4Sleepy Sun Review  Nov 04, 2009
By Jessica Morris "Jess"
We were priveleged to receive this book as a Mama Buzz Review product.

I have read Sleepy Sun to my boys several time over the last week. My 2 yr old adores the illustrations and tells me he wants to "go there" - pointing to various places depicted in the images. The illustrations are vivid and imaginative.

The text itself is simple and soothing. In telling the story of places the sun has shone it opens up for a great dialogue with young children that the sun shines in more places than just their own backyard. In the Sleepy Sun some of the places that the sun shines are on children swimming, skiers swooshing, a great big city and the dessert - I love that different weather/seasons are incorporated in the book as well as different places around the world.

We love introducing our boys (age 1 and 2) to new books and I am always on the lookout for new stories to read to them and because of that I was excited to receive this one to review. I enjoy this book because it had encouraged my 2 yr olds imagination to start thinking about the sun and when we are out he tries to find where the sun is.

5Great Bedtime Story!Neither of my sons have been interested in books yet, I try but they push the book aside. So I am challenge  Oct 07, 2009
By Cherise Kachelmuss "Mom and More"
Neither of my sons have been interested in books yet, I try but they push the book aside. So I am challenged to find books they will enjoy and I will enjoy too since I am the one reading it! I have found that they really enjoy books that rhyme and are colorful. Well "Sleepy Sun" by Mari Priscilla Hanson offers both, rhyming and colorful illustrations.

Sleepy Sun is a soft cover children's book about the sun coming out and then at the end it goes to sleep. It is such a cute story and the illustrations are really amazing. I read in the back that the illustrator used acrylic paint to showcase the story in this full color picture book. Every page has a full-page picture and my sons really liked them! Now even though this book is 26 pages long, it is a very quick read, perfect to read before bed. Each page has only 1 or 2 sentences that rhyme and the story flows very well.

I enjoyed this book and I really think my sons did too. It is perfect for boys and girls of all races and even though it says it is for ages 4-8, my little guys smiled when I read it. The only part I would change is I would prefer a hardcover for durability purposes, as my boys are rough on books.
