Something About My Face

Regina Allen-Wilson’s Something About My Face is an appealing and meaningful story appropriate for children from toddler to adolescence. In an era when beauty is defined by a media focused on a flawed definition of perfection―tall, thin, ethereal―children of all ages are struggling to accept their appearance. This book responds to that struggle and reminds children that we are all unique, and that our uniqueness is part of what makes us beautiful. Based on her own experiences with her daughter, the author delivers a gentle, yet unambiguous reminder to parents that their attitudes toward their children, and the words they use to describe them, play a vital role in each child’s self-perception and self-confidence. Through the sweet voice of a child and the loving voice of her mother, this book takes a firm stand against a judgmental and often critical society in which children are often our innocent victims.

5A Wonderful eye-opener for young ladies  Oct 12, 2009
By Linda I. Greene
This book is excellent for young girls to know that no matter how they may look, they are beautiful inside and out. This book was well written and depicts how some young girls think of themselves but the outstanding words by the author gives encouraging words to young girls to know that they are truly special and are superior gifts from God. This is a great book for anyone in the educational field, social workers, hospitals, etc. Reading this book to young women will help them realize their full potential in life. I applaud Mrs. Regina Allen-Wilson for creating such a powerful story. This is definitely a must-read and must-have book.

5A book for all ages  Apr 09, 2011

This is a fabulously written story. Parents and teachers who want their children to see beauty in themselves and others should read this book to those children.... perhaps attributes of compassion and tolerance are byproducts of this message of self-love. While it is specific to girls in the story, I believe young boys will benefit as well. This is a tool for parents and teachers. I would like to see more from this author !

After reading this book to my daughter she ran to the mirror, looked at herself, and smiled. The message about self acceptance and real beauty is something that will be beneficial for all little girls. I just love it!!

5Great Book for All Ages  Feb 24, 2011

Something About My Face is a great story with a heartfelt message. I really enjoyed the pictures and how they matched the words so well. Also the great message of self-acceptance and loving yourself is appropriate for every age group. I highly recommend this book to anyone who hopes to inspire and improve others' lives especially children.

5Great Book for Girls  Feb 21, 2011
By M. Wilson
I believe this book should definitely be placed on your buying list for girls. When reading "Something About My Face" as a family, my daughters were introduced to another supporting source. Often girls are extremely sensitive to what people think about "how they look". Girls need to understand that a person's character is more important than their physical appearance. Being able to build self esteem at an early age would help with dealing with these issues. This book presented this life lesson in an easy to read format with interesting and believable illustrations. One page was so funny to my daughter that she laughed continuously for over 5 minutes. No kidding. I think my daughters understand now how little commits and/or thoughts could be blown out of proportion.
