Somewhere By Chicago

If you have ever wondered about the life of a pastor, there is no finer account―tender and wise, entertaining and hopeful―than Somewhere By Chicago by author and pastor Miles Finch. Sharing the passions and joys of pastoral life, as well as some of the difficulties, Finch pulls his readers into the small town of Polson, Montana and reminds us how effortlessly the human spirit can move from ordinary emotions to profound experiences with God. Each story offers a good helping of perspective, always juxtaposed with the human condition, and most often delivering a lesson in human behavior and our capacity to be kind, curious, and yes, even eccentric. Finch introduces us to several dozen unique and unpretentious Americans who face the same daily challenges experienced by all of us. Within each beautifully crafted story is insight into the diversity that makes us special in our families, communities, and in our houses of worship.

A great look into the life of a Pastor and a rare look into one who served in one community their whole ministry. But most of all what great accounts of the mighty acts of God in the lives of people in need. Hard to put down.

Having grown up in the church written about, I expected a walk down memory lane and wondered if this book would be of interest to someone who didn't "know" the book's characters. I was pleasantly surprised that this book brought back fond memories, but it was so much more. It reminds me that pastors are HUMAN beings. I loved the humility, honesty, and the living proof that God is at work in the lives of people...funny people, difficult people, unlovely people, addicted people, imperfect human beings! This book is a "MUST READ" for pastors of any denomination and also for churchgoers. It is hard to put down and quick to read. You will be glad you did.
