Not to be missed by any Halfhill fan. Jul 21, 2007

"Betty's Books"
The third book in the Jan Phillips series, titled "Sons," introduces the reader to a whole new dimension in the protagonist's character. Jan has been with his partner, Michael, for twelve years now. Both are successful in their respective business affairs: Michael with is importing company, and Jan, not only with his busy law firm, but also as American head of Mundus, a worldwide covert organization that treads where governments dare not.
One cold, snowy night someone enters Jan and Michael's loft home on the Delaware River, and their lives, and relationship, may never be the same. The action takes place in France, Philadelphia, and Iceland, where the book's exciting finale takes place. The strong story and eye-catching cover make "Sons" the best in the Jan Phillips series to date.

Meet a new member of the Jan Phillips family Sep 28, 2007
By Alex Hogan SONS - the third in the Jan Phillips series. It follows the story of the teenage Colin Phillips, who discovers he is related to Jan and isn't too happy about it. Halfhill does a great depiction of the confused world of teenagers. He examines the thorny issue of homophobia among teenagers and how they must face these issues and work through them. Plenty of underworld grit and world wide criminal activity in this novel, mixed with the examination of just what is love and how it is earned. I can't say anymore without giving too much away. One of the strengths of Halfhill's novels is that he doesn't create a false world where the majority of people are gay, but a real world where only a few are gay, and they have to deal with a straight world which is often hostile to them.

Another Halfhill triumph. Aug 25, 2008
By Antonio Marquez (Author) If one has read Michael Halfhill's first two novels of the Jan Phillips series "Bought and paid for" and "Scimitar", it wouldn't come to any surprise that "Sons" is equally as strong and entertaining. To follow Jan Phillips from his youth into adulthood is truly a journey well worth taking. The reader becomes familiar with Halfhill's characters as they follow them through the trials and tribulations life presents to them. The series thoroughly kept my interest, and has left me hungry for more of Halfhill's work. There is mystery, suspense, happiness and sorrow throughout the series. Qualities and elements every great novel should have. The writing is well crafted and tight, making each novel a most enjoyable read. Halfhill is undoubtedly one of the most gifted writers I've come across. Talent is evident from the first page of Bought and paid for, through Scimitar and and now in Sons. My admiration of his work is immeasurable.
