Sperm Donor Offspring:: Identity and Other Experiences

Sperm Donor Offspring: Identity and Other Experiences explores the universal life experiences of adult donor offspring, people conceived from the use of anonymous sperm donation. The knowledge we gain from the sperm donor descendants themselves about their life experiences is relevant for donor offspring and families, medical personnel, counselors, educators, and for policy and regulation of donor insemination and other reproductive technologies.

4Good research tool  Sep 27, 2010
By Amber Cushing
As I began doing research in this area, I used this book. It was very useful-much of the research about sperm donor offspring uses surveys, whereas this book includes some self ethnography (self reflection) and interview data. Spenser tackles a difficult issue-what does it mean to be donor offspring? While the issue is complicated, I do not think the book was complicated at all. In reviewing this book as "biased" the previous reviewer seems to lack an understanding of the practice of qualitative research, in which researcher is compelled to reveal some of his/her own biases-in this case, the fact the Spencer is a donor offspring.

This was written very techinically. It was incredibly cold and biased. It shows a one sided argument toward donor insemination. I does show the long lasting effects of using donor sperm, which is an important concept the author conveys. I do not recommend this book. Causes more confusion and grief.
