I hired her, and I'm proud of it Mar 03, 2008 I fell in love with Flomot, Peggy Gunn, and the rest of her family and a way of life that flourished and died for hundreds of Flomots and Gunns like them throughout Texas. She truly tells a touching story of growing up at a time and a place not so long ago yet really a long, long time ago. She and I sprung up at the same time and grew up similarly; I came near to being raised in rural Arizona on a farm with an outhouse, no running water, where my father had ridden his old horse, Tardy, late to school many times a couple of flat-desert miles away. But, my parents soon moved and left all that behind except, like Peggy, for family pilgrimages to the old homeplace. We, too, lived in rented houses, simply, never richly, but in urban settings. Peggy had something to write about, a life that most everyone who ever grew up in the country can identify with and for those who didn't should read just to see what the rest missed. There are countless thousands who wish they had written their stories but never felt inspired. Now I understand why the Lonesome Dove epic tale means so much to her; she can see herself riding those trails across her beloved homeland. It's good she married at 16; she had to pack a lot of life into the books she planned to write. Until now I did not know the person that asked me for a job long ago. Peggy took my nickel raises at the time as she has always taken life, without complaining.

Fantastic Journey Into the Past Feb 29, 2008 Younger sister, Peg, calls me the boss, so I am taking credit
for being a good one. Her accomplishments have been
staggering, and I am giving "Flomot and Beyond" five stars.
This trip down memory lane, not only, teaches history of the area and Gunn family, but brings back delightful memories of a time past, when we five siblings created our own magic in the beautiful caprock country.
Peg, keep on writing!
