Staging Your Home for Your Retirement

To my fellow retirees and those of you who are close to retirement, this book is your personal invitation to join me on an enlightening journey. We will go through each room in the home and make tough decisions about whether or not to save all the crazy stuff we have amassed through the years. Then we will embark on the task of cleaning and organizing every drawer and closet and rearranging and removing objects in our path until each room feels fresh and uncluttered, and we are surrounded with whatever brings us joy. At the conclusion of this ever evolving process, you will find that your home will be “staged” for your retirement.

1A magazine article at best  Jan 15, 2012

This booklet is 90 half-size pages, using a large type font and a lot of white space and photos. It's interesting that the author defines staging as taking one's personal identity out of a space, and yet this book is all about her family, including unknown "oriental-looking" relatives (pg 72) - this comment made me really sad - people are Asian, and objects are oriental (no doubt Mrs. Sobel is a nice lady and meant no offense, but this is unkind, and yes, it does make a difference). In my opinion, a much better book in regard to motivation for decluttering at any stage in one's life is Don Aslett's Clutter's Last Stand.

5A Refreshing Alternative To Procrastination  Jun 10, 2008

I wasn't sure I wanted to face all my clutter; I had become kind of attached to much of it. Then I noticed Bonnie Sobel's book on Staging Your Home for Your Retirement. I'm already retired and I figured the kids could deal with it, but I thought I'd take a peak. When I took this peak, I had to take another and another, room by room. Bonnie presents her ideas with good humor and precise thoughts. I began to realize that it might create a much more restful atmosphere and after I gave "my treasures" away, the kids might be thankful. So, I have begun the process, which will take some time, but I know I will be so pleased that I have done it. Thank you, Bonnie for getting me going in such a motivational way. I know after I live though "making a mess" to alievate a mess, I will be most grateful. I recommend this book to anyone who is willing to undertake this journey to a more uncluttered life. 5Excellent Book!  Mar 03, 2008

This is a wonderful book for retirees who want their homes to sparkle in their retirement years! It is even helpful for people who are not yet ready to retire, but need help organizing. The author gives room by room suggestions and tips for de-cluttering a home. It is different from other books in that it helps a person make his/her house beautiful for the most important critic-themself, without costing a lot of money. It is very light-hearted and easy to read.
