You will love it! Aug 26, 2009
By Helena Li I am surprised no one before me has written anything about this book. It's just GREAT! I cannot put it down once I start reading it. There are many interesting incidents and very good advices. I am still reading it and feel full of energy, positive ones....and cannot wait to write this.....
I love it! I love the way he speaks! He is sincere, compassionate and full of fun, just like my grandpa (yes, grandpa, wink, or pa, ok)! The book was published in 2007; at that time the author was 89 years old and legally blind! I guess it means he is more or less blind! Yet he could type out a book!
I like the way he quote his personal experiences to illustrate some points he tries to make, e.g. attitude. Good attitude brings out good results. He told us a story about two hostesses in the aeroplane, one is smiling and joking so everyone served is smiling and happy. At the end, everyone says a warm thank you and goodbye. One just does her duties dutifully with restraint and all those served by her remain in restraint too. Then the happy one told the author that by serving in this way, she finds time passes quicker and she is happy everyone is happier.
He told us he bought a Harley at the age of 75 and he gave a 82 year old woman a joy ride. Ha! And the woman kept asking him to go faster, faster! Ha.......The author says everything is in the mind. When our mind tells us we can do things, we can, even though we are much older than others! To meet new young friends, to share with them our experiences (yes, I am no longer young or that young), to take up new challenges......
In fact, his book makes me re-think my Buddhism. I have been taught that we will die soon, so we better hurry up and do good deeds; time is running out. Nothing wrong with that. It is just all the time I am anticipating death. But the author says, what happens if we don't die early? This means we have many years to go. Shouldn't we plan it in a better way? I think he is absolutely correct!! I really have to plan better what to do in the next many years, how to live meaningfully and happily....instead of mourning for the lost glow of skin or tone of muscles, or good sweet voice.............So I have already benefited from this book and feel sure you will!

I am still reading it! The book cites so many interesting experiences of the author that I find very readable! He talks a lot about Rome, really exciting in 1950...yes, I am reading that part now, in the middle of the book. Normally I can finish a book in one day. This means this book has a lot to offer! My initial impression still holds, in fact, it is getting better. I feel the author is very generous, totally unreseved in sharing with us his experiences and view points. I am recommending it to every man and woman, old and young....and I hope the author knows I write nicely about his book...because I don't know how he knows...as he cannot see...
