Streaming Media To Mobile Devices with Reflective Middleware: The Chameleon Framework

Seamless connectivity to multiple wireless networks independently of a fixed point is becoming increasingly important for mobile devices but portable multimedia devices such as PDA's with restricted memory and smart phones vary greatly and all these devices require optimal multimedia delivery. This book presents an extensible middleware which caters for resource constrained devices to full-fledged computers through dynamic micro-protocols which enable devices to adopt specific protocol stacks at runtime in an attempt to optimise the stack to the functionality that is actually required by the application.

4Specific Accurate Information on Building Solid Middleware  Oct 14, 2004
I am currently looking into building a middleware framework for my company. I actually work on it mostly at weekends and in my spare time. I also have an interest in distibuted systems in general.

I just happened to come across this book through a simple keyword search. I have to say that given it's cheap price - I wasn't expecting much but I was really surprised. It covered most of what I wanted it to cover and then it lead me down avenues that I had simply not considered.

The middleware code snippets provided for free with the book were useful and much of the code was easily slotted into my own project. I have to recommend this book - I mean it is really cheap and is easy to read. I have to say that some parts are complex but most parts are a breeze to read. Yes. A 4 out of 5 for value.
