One trick pony Jan 27, 2009
By Jerome C. Ebensperger
"canoe builder"
The rope clamp technique for stapleless construction is the only thing in this bok that doesn't seem to have come directly from Building the Strip Canoe by Gil Gilpatrick (much of this book reads like it came out of Gil's writing) or Canoecraft by Ted Mohr. Both of them provide clearer instructions and photos than you'll find here. They provide greater value with more plans documented, too. Canoecraft also provides instructions for stapleless construction if that's the route you'd like to take.

Excellent Book! Dec 05, 2007
By Rishi N. Bhatia In my opinion strip built Canoe written by Randy Folsom is a well written book. I liked the content organization starts off from the basic areas and then dives into technical stuff as stripping, strip dimensions etc. I have built Canoe's for around 3 years now and the book brought out some great insights that were new to me as well. The illustrations are excellent as well. The language used by the author is simple enough to explain the technicalities very well. I believe this one of the best books out there for building Canoe's.

Great Book Aug 02, 2008
By Erik Peterson Strip Built Canoe by Randy Folsom is a fantastic book especially if you have never built a cedar strip canoe before. He effectively explains every step of building a canoe and of course, adds his own insight which improves upon conventional construction methods. Above all, one of the best features is the authors website which has a support email address allowing you to ask him questions if you need additional information. There are many books out there on this subject which I have read through but in my opinion this one has helped me out the best.

Very helpful for all Feb 28, 2009
By Hajimu Kawa A great buy. This book has so many new ideas and techniques. I especially like the coverage on ripping the strips. It's clear to see that taking the time to make well made strips really saves a lot of time and effort overall. I was surprised how easy it is to create patterns using different colors of wood to make dotted line strips. I highly recommend this book for anyone that is considering building a canoe. The extensive pictures and illustrations cover every aspect so even a first time builder like me had no problem understanding each step.

Highly recommeded Feb 18, 2009
By M. ODonnell A must read for anyone planning on building a strip built boat, be it a canoe or kayak. The author has included many innovative techniques including some very cool rope clamps for stapleless construction and extensive coverage of the fiber glassing process. Everything is covered from ripping the strips to making monkey fist grab handles.
