Studies in Tape Reading: Compiled From the Original Magazine Articles

Unable to convince anyone to write a detailed article about tape reading for his magazine, The Ticker, Richard D. Wyckoff decided to write about it himself and reason it out as he went along. The resulting twelve articles were published in 1908 and 1909, and reprinted in book form in 1910.

This book was compiled from those magazine articles and incorporates a few revisions from the 1910 first edition of the book, as well as more than two dozen additional articles from the Ticker examining tape reading and market dynamics.

Some of the topics covered by these articles include:

  • Analysis of a trader's account, running expenses, and the invisible eighth
  • How stock exchange transactions were reported
  • Rollo Tape's four Market Lectures
  • Vignettes of James R. Keene and Jesse Livermore
  • Selected questions and answers about tape reading from the Ticker's Inquiry Column
  • Wyckoff's 1912 Finance Forum address on tape reading

5very good book  Feb 11, 2011

This book is a very good addition to ones trading library. I liked it so much, that after reading it, I ordered all the other books by Richard Wyckoff available on Amazon.

These books from the early 1900s reinforce the idea that there's nothing new in the markets. Nowadays you hear a lot of howling that GS or the Fed manipulates the markets and the little guy has no chance in making any money trading. Well, just do a search for the words 'manipulator' and 'manipulation' in this book. :)
