This book is a great read. Full of the surprising misdeeds of OC leaders and developers. It paints a very modern picture of big business ruining the natural beauty of the American landscape. Callahan is neither myopic nor blinded by his anger. This book is comprehensive and shows the decline of a county (country) from numerous perspectives. I found the toxic combination of politics and business particularly relevant. We see a new conservatism emerge today that behind the curtain of religiosity and free-market individualism, is profoundly misguided and undermines an America we all long for. Callahan's nostalgia for the past is poignant and his thoughtful address of the problems in OC will make any reader question the underpinning of the American dream as it stands today.
