Sunbathing in a Body Cast: True Stories

Sunbathing in a Body Cast is an autobiographical journey through the quirky, frenetic mind of Rebecca Rine-Stone. While weaving memories with present life, Rine-Stone creates essays that are self-deprecatingly humorous yet always deeply personal and honest. She delves into and magnifies reflections on everyday life as well as more serious topics such as sickness and mortality and she tackles such obstacles without self-pity, but rather with outward optimism, hope and sassy sarcasm. Subjects range from going through the Dairy Queen drive-thru in a body cast in the back of a station wagon to her ongoing aversion to growing up. Having come to no solid conclusions about life except that we’re all in this mess together, Rine-Stone proves it’s easier and better to be nothing more than yourself and nothing less than yourself.

5A great read from start to finish.  Mar 28, 2009
I really loved this book, it was an excellent read. The stories were really well written and to the point, full of emotion, character, and a genuineness that can be felt from beginning to end. It made me cry hard, and laugh out loud, relating every story to my own life experiences. It really made me feel how we're all in it together, and need to enjoy each other more. I don't know if that's what was meant by the author, but that's what I got. And I loved every page of it.

5Hilarious & Poignant  Mar 27, 2009
A comical rendition of some of life's most tender moments. Rebecca reminds us to keep focused on the important things and never to take for granted all that you've been blessed with - can you really complain about your life if you've never had to sunbathe in a body cast? You'll laugh your cast off!

5Best book I've read in a long time!!!  Mar 23, 2009
These stories made me laugh and cry. Rebecca's writing is honest and witty. It tugs at the heart strings and makes you reflect on your own experiences. She brings you to those deep places, but then snaps you back with her quirky and hilarious sense of humor. I would recommend it to anyone!!!

5Very touching!  Mar 09, 2009
I could not put this down. It was a great combination of fact and wit. It was especially compelling to me since I could relate to a great deal of the stories since I am Rebecca's aunt. However, even the parts that I couldn't personally relate to, I found very interesting as well. So all around I truly enjoyed it and now plan to share with my children (Rebecca's cousins).

5A Must-Read!  Mar 05, 2009
This is the best book I have read in a long long time. Rebecca is an excellent story teller, taking us along with her on her exploration of life, mortality, coping, and nude beaches. This is a truly inspirational and hilarious read!
