5THIS BOOK SAVED ME!!!  Oct 12, 2006
Shirley Rosenberg's Surviving Parenthood: A View From The Balcony should be a MUST READ for new or expecting parents. Her strong educational background and long career as a child psychologist working in one of the most diverse public school systems in the country provide her with the foundational experience and firsthand knowledge to determine what works!

Most helpful and enjoyable are her thoughtful examples and anecdotal stories which serve to compliment her insights into a child's mind.

Having come from an unstable childhood with questionable role-models I only wish my parent's had read this book when I was younger. Rosenberg forces you to think about how your actions, no matter how small, can affect your child in the long-run. A highly recommended and enjoyable read that no parent should go without.
